Allah is Al Rahman, Al Raheem. The root of these two names is a beautiful reflection on the meaning of Allah's divine names. The root is رحم (womb).
Before explore the word, allow me to explain the visual - the ر serves as the womb, holding the rest of the word with it and in this we understand that the word is incomplete without the ر holding it together, the same way we are incomplete without our Creator.
The رحم (womb) is the origin of love. Seeing the natural connection a baby has with their mother after having exited the womb, knowing and being familiar with absolutely nothing - but still naturally yearning for their mother, we begin to understand our desire to find God, too.
Our ability to link these concepts together in a divine way is no coincidence.
Have you noticed that the natural inclination for all mankind is to find their purpose or calling? This is the subconscious trying to find its Creator.
Paralleling the رحم with رحمة (mercy) and رحمن (The All-Merciful) we see that it is Allah's love for creation that allows our hearts and minds to seek Him as we have come from Him.
His love, outmatching that of a mother to her child, is why all of mankind seeks to answer the question of what, why and who.
It is our mercy upon our friends and loved ones that allows us to seek them, and them to seek us. What I've learned from this is that mercy is indispensable. With Allah, He never forgoes it.
This is why His love for us is constant, there exists no moment in time where He is not , and if that is the case - who are we to forgo our mercy with others?
